Mark Waid's Thrillbent is an amazing site that presents digital comics in a new an interesting way.

Who is Mark Waid? Well, he's an Eisner Award-winning American comic book writer who wrote books such as DC's the Flash for an eight year run and Marvel's Captain America. While serving as Editor-in-Chief and later, Chief Creative Officer of BOOM! Studios, he wrote the well received titles Irredeemable and Incorruptible. My favorite of Mark Waid's scripted comic book was DC's critically acclaimed limited series Kingdom Come in which he collaborated with the amazing artist Alex Ross.

I found Thrillbent from Mark Waid's website. The first time I went to Thrillbent I read the first week of Insufferable it was very good. I was working on few other things at the time and didn't really go back to the site until I recently decided to work on the Rush Minis project.

This is an example of some of the sequential storytelling techniques used at Thrillbent, reusing the same panel but shifting the focus of the blur effect. The panels shown here are from Insufferable Week 9.

During the holidays I read all(currently 34 weeks) of available issues in one sitting and it was awesome. Insufferable is a great story, but what really stood out was the way the story was presented. At some points the same panels was reused giving a sense of animation by switching focus between the foreground and background using a blurring effect, changing character position within the panel, speech balloons updated, or captions were added. There is even a cool sequence, in one week as panels are added one at time which gives what feels like a progression of time. What is also interesting is there is a CBZ(a very popular comic book archive format) and PDF are provided for the current week's issue.

Thrillbent is described as an experiment in new-media publishing, I for one think is very successful. With other works like Luther and Pax Arena, it shows the quality of work that can be produced in this medium. Thrillbent has also given me an idea on how I can present content in a very simple but compelling way. It also provides an amazing way to experience comics. Thrillbent.com is definitely a site worth visiting.
